It is a relatively cheap backup option for large amounts and frequently used data. It is quick to backup, view and restore the data, and backups get done by themselves. Life expectancy is around 3-5 years. Affected areas of the disk will then start to get faults and lose any data in the affected areas. They are bulky compared to a USB drive; however they store a lot more data.
